This Week's Quote: "Competition is merely the absence of oppression." —Frédéric Bastiat

-Lined up and shot?  Come now Shane I think that's over the top, especially for you.
-There is bullshit European governments don't do, but I don't think I'd last a year there with their stealth restrictions on speech.
-So yes there are BS ISP practices, on the other hand some customers ARE difficult to reach.  Better the FTC investigate that stuff than the FCC.
-Here's part of the new script for Law and Order: France (<<DUN-DUN>>):"

Central Court of Paris (or whatever it's called):
Judge: Monsieur Rousseau, you are charged with unlawful detainment and and battery, how do you plead?
Rousseau: Not guilty, your honor for I was defending my business from unlicensed and unfair competition.  I motion for Acquittal.
Judge: Faces the prosecutor Any objections?
Prosecutor: Non, your honor.
Judge: Motion granted."

-I remember nominating William J Watkins Jr for putting forth the same nonsense about it trampling Democratic decision making, or Federalism, or something.  It's just as BS.  If the government is going to create exclusive benefits that are shared between two individuals, then it's up to each individual to choose who they share those benefits with.  Any language accounting for any parties gender is unacceptable and is inherently discriminatory.
-I got a Samsung TV and I absolutely love it.
Working every day to expose the terrible price we pay for government.

I have to point out the fact that Uberpop is illegal since the first of january 2015. For the moment, it is an offence that can get you up to 300k euros in fines and 2 years in prison. Uber and their competitors contested this law and the constitutional council was put to task, and they have yet to make a decision on the subject. The arguments for the law are stupid as usual. The first one is that it is unfair competition, we all know this one, and the second is that customers are not covered by the drivers insurance in case of accidents. Which is laughable because the reason insurances don't cover the customers is because a government in the past decided it that way. In short, your insurance covers any passenger of your car ... Unless they are paying you for the trip :)

Now about protests ... This situation is not surprising at all. the taxi drivers are not the only one using this kind of tactics. Regularly in this country, we have freight truckers blocking roads with their 40tons and annoying every-fucking-body by controlling how many cars get through at any given time, their goal being openly to slow down traffic ... to "protest" ... Any person who decide to go through the blockade and use its right to use the road without the truckers permission will be assaulted. This kind of tactics have been allowed to go on for decades, so why any idiot would refrain from doing it now ? This is not the last time we see that happening guys ...
The worst part is, almost nobody likes that ! People are always fucking pissed about it, but when comes the time for elections, this kind of questions are never put on the table. You always can find the one moron that thinks it is perfectly reasonable to equate that shit to freedom of speech (Why not, in politics, you make up definitions all the time anyway), but in general, people seem to be very much against it. They just got used to it.

Miscellaneous things we talked about when recording the 6 July 2015 podcast, including more about how diseases are idiotically portrayed on TV, why going with alt-med is a bad idea, Apple vs. Microsoft (or, Why They Both Suck), why smartphones and tablets are more secure, and products that should not be named "Trojan."
