The raptors were basically fudged for story reasons.  They needed another predator besides the T-rex.
I recently heard that the word heretic is derived from the greek work heriticos which means "able to choose"
The more you know...

I think they should have just stuck with the original name Deinonychus. Or they could have used Utahraptor

Utahraptor was not yet known to the wider public in 1993 (in fact the movie was released around the time the animal was described). The Novel it was based on was from 1990, so the Author from whom the director drew inspiration also didn't know.

(Utahraptor's remains were found in the 1970's, but didn't get any attention. only until a foot bone was found in 1991 did Paleontologists look into it).
Meh

Didn't know that. You said Paleontology is your specialty right?

I have  two specialties actually: Paleontology, and sed-strat. the latter is in case the former goes tits up (already happened). not that it is working out.

Apparently, there were both digital and man-in-suit versions of the 'raptors used in the first film.  They were mostly digital, but man-in-suit versions were used for the part where they attacked a person.  (Likely because the tech just wasn't up to producing an adequate reproduction of a person for such a shot at the time and you really can't put them in later with a person trying to mime it and have it look like anything but what it is.)

TREX vs Spino anyone?

This has nothing to do with anything science related, but The Nostalgia Critic uploaded a review  of the movie this week.

Heh, one reviewer I used to read described the scene where the spineosaurus kills the T-rex as "the most uninteresting grudge match since Hulk Hogan vs The Undertaker."

Which one?

They've had a few that were pretty lackluster.

I suspect that was the point...

JP1 was just about the only good (and it is great IMO) movie in the series. the other two were garbage in comparison.
