Now that Google has removed almost all functions from YouTube and is trying to force the completely failed Google+ (the social media site that people who like social media don't like) on people instead of a replacement, how long will YouTube last before something else replaces it?

I give them a year based solely on what they do next. The day they make it a requirement to even use youtube however is the day youtube finally dies.

The only really problem I had with the old model was the 500 key limit for a comment. If they fix that I'm good

That's fixed, and we have decent comment threading now.
I just wish they'd integrate it with the YouTube interface, so that videos with new comments would show up in your Inbox like they always have. They're still doing that with PMs, but not comments.
Am I the only person here who likes the changes?
I'm love-hate with them. I really don't like the fact that when you get a comment you can no longer go straight to the All Comments page.
I don't like that they took the link to the messages/inbox off the front page. Now, I can never remember where they moved it to, and I have to hunt it down each time.

Google+ is now required to leave comments.
Unfortunately for me, I don't have my account linked to it and because for some reason the script won't work to link my account, I'm stuck not being able to leave comments on even my own videos.
Needless to say it's completely ridiculous. Until I find a workaround or a fix for this, if they ever make Google+ mandatory to upload videos, my channel is completely fucked.

Not only that, but occasionally I'd like to comment on a video (or on a forum like bogosity) without all my casual acquaintances and work mates being notified of it.

OK, another point in the "win" column. It certainly isn't all good, but it isn't all bad, either.
But, the "in reply to" links are farked. Another point in the "fail" column...

Totalbiscuit's take on it. He had high hopes for this and wound up kicked in the proverbial nads.
I think it's an epic fail--the feed doesn't update with comments anymore. It looks like Shane and Hawkeye haven't posted a comment on YouTube for weeks. :( What's more, the comments themselves are so effed up, I can no longer sort through them by thread or see all of them to view past threads. What the hell, YouTube?
I've posted several just today; you might want to check your settings.
Remember that they'll show up on the Google+ bell at the top right, not in your Inbox as they were before.
I don't have YouTube anymore. I deleted my account there ages ago.
And even between getting rid of my account and YouTube's recently, I would just go to youtube.com/user/shanedk/feed to see all the comments you posted. Same idea with Hawkeye. Now it doesn't update like it used to. :( So now I haven't been able to see any new comments (I can still see the ones from before the new youtube though, oddly enough). Maybe it sets it so they won't display their by default? Since the new stuff, I mean?

The new stuff is actually Google+, not YouTube.

Try this URL: https://plus.google.com/u/0/100197545745919590620/posts
You might be able to see my timeline without logging in. Of course, even at that, although it shows original comments I make on videos, it doesn't show replies.

I don't. There is no option for it. Only top comments and newest first. Both have no indent next to the comments that are a reply to a comment like it used to have making it really difficult to follow threads. Very poorly done if they are threaded.

They let you keep your pseudonym if you have an established audience using that name. The intention, I think, was good: to help deter people from using the anonymity of user names for abuse.

Actually, IIRC, it has the
intended sub-consequence of making it difficult to make a new pseudonym, should you want a new channel for video making. IIUC the TOS, in order to make a new channel under a pseudonym, you have to provide evidence that you have a following under that alias (like on facebook, twitter, instagram, etc.)
Other than that, you have to produce/comment under your real name, so that people you harass/intimidate/other wise cause some actionable injury to can sue the real you. (As opposed to them suing google for allowing you a forum.)

Forcing people to use their real name is my biggest problem with this change. They had good intentions, but it backfired horribly. No matter what you do to deter trolls, they'll just get creative. I typed in a bunch of bullshit for my Google+ account. What's to stop a troll from doing the same?
As for the question that started this topic, I have a feeling that YouTube will slowly die out over a number of years. MySpace didn't die in a day, after all.

As the person who asked said question, I think it will be slow for a while, until a proper substitute for YouTube (without the completely fail warts and misfeatures Google has been dumping into it) come along and reaches critical mass, at which point YouTube will abruptly die.
I n at least one sense, this will be unfortunate, as YouTube has a lot of good TV on it these days.

I think it'll be more tied in with social media. YouTube rose to prominence because of its quasi-social nature. Now, you can embed videos pretty much anywhere and put them on Facebook, Google+, or wherever. Especially with the advent of things like HTML5, I think the day is coming when the person you shared the video with won't have a clue where it's hosted.
This has nothing to do with Google+, but apparently Youtube has officially started going full force with content id matching video game videos.
Popular youtuber DSP (Dark Side Phil) confirmed via Twitter (https://twitter.com/TheyCallMeDSP) that they marked 48 of his videos ranging from recently to the last 1.5 years:
QuoteYouTubes new content-ID matching is now turned ON: I just got 48 content ID matches on videos ranging the past 1.5 years. Knew it was coming

It's been like that all the time. One of my classical piano pieces (Debussy, public domain worldwide) got content-matched. The funny thing was it got content-matched for no less than TWELVE different recordings!

I honestly have no simpathy for DSP.
You know, I think it would be a different thing if the companies themselves were doing a DMCA on the videos. Then you could argue with them about fair use. For Google to use some kind of content matching software to automatically, is, well bogus. First (and foremost) in my mind, is some of the copyright owners ENCOURAGE players to make derivative works.

So yeah, companies are illegally claiming stuff that isn't theirs.
The only way to fix it is to repeal the DMCA. Guess how likely THAT is to happen...

Yea but the funny thing about this whole mess is that so many people are like get a real job then none of this would happen Laws ugh. Why are people so pig headed to say that I mean if people are paying you to do a service then its a job plain and simple
If anything will kill YouTube it's this copyright bullshit like the DMCA, et al. IIRC, it's not even YouTube's fault. The law says that YouTube can be held liable, hence why they're bending like this.

This seems related...
I had an argument about roads (https://www.bogosity.tv/forum/index.php?topic=315.msg21310#msg21310) with one mouthpiece200. Rather than debate, mouthpiece (or someone who agrees with him) decided to flag or mark my messages. Surprisingly, this led to my messages getting blocked or removed, even though the video the comments are on belong to another user entirely (HowTheWorldWorks), whom mouthpiece was
speaking out against.
Thinking about this for a bit, I can't seem to recall being able to view a down-voted or spam-marked message since the overhaul. It seems like these messages are blocked or removed altogether, or at the very least, I haven't yet found a way to view them yet. If someone has information to the contrary, I'd love to hear it; otherwise, this is a huge, all-caps FAIL for YouTube.

It seems I am not alone in flatly refusing to use the new comments system.
Good: We can view all comments marked as spam across all videos, and unmark them if they aren't really spam.
Bad: There's no way to unmark comments made before the changeover.

I'm certain the same thing is happening to me. On more than one occasion, I see people I'm debating with stop posting, and some days later, my comments just up and vanish, so it looks as though
I'm the one that gave up.
Clearly giving thumbs down does something to comments, it just can't be seen or measured until the comment vanishes. So if you can't refute somebody with actual proof, now you can just keep downthumbing their comments until they go away! Yay!

So there's this comment by YoSeCualEsMejor, made on/about March 21 (it's about the 10th comment down, as of this post):
Bob and David Duke are the best, All the DrinkingWithBob fans should support the politician David Duke because he will truely save USA from the wall street banksters, war mongers, and illegal immigration invasion.
It's at least the second time he's made such comments on Bob's videos. I can't tell if he's serious or just a poe, but in either case, he is a bogon-spewing jerk. So I reported the message as "hate speech," which YouTube said they'd look into. When I reloaded the page, the message is still visible to me, but it's been marked as "Muted."
Now, clearly I can't see this from YoSe's side, but I suspect this is what's causing some comments to just vanish. Someone reports a message which YouTube simply mutes, and they never actually check the message as they claim to do. If this is indeed what's happening, YouTube has dropped the ball through the bedrock, straight down into the mantle.
