Does anyone else get the feeling that recently they just try to stretch the intros as long as possible so that they don't have to do as much work on the actual episodes?

By the way, the Fox channel censor their comments.

My guess is that when they show these episodes five years from now, Fox will just edit the introduction down for more commercial time instead of editing the actual episode as they do with older episodes. Although I am kind of upset that the new high-definition format does not work so well with my standard television set.

Sometimes they do a shorter intro where it cuts right to Homer dodging the car (which I guess now will be Homer getting hit).

This intro is the same length as the previous full-length intro; it was just redone because The Simpsons is now broadcast in HD.

Oh, come on! They hunt the couch for, like, a minute!
And they also had that long-drawn-out intro in which the couches turned even!
And in another one still they made this Universe zooming-out thing which took an eternity as well!

Yeah, but you are forgetting that that introduction was awesome. And an excellent homage to one of the greatest short, documentary films ever.

The couch gag is always different. Some last two seconds, some go on for minutes. That's how the show's always been.

Not exactly, the minutes-long couch gags a new.

They've done long ones before. There's the chorus line, the one where the couch attacks them and is shot by Moe, and the one where Homer evolves from a single-celled organism (with an overbite). And there are probably more I can't think of off the top of my head.

Not exactly. What about this particularly long one from the season 4 episode "Lisa's First Word?"

I think the evolution one might actually be longest. It went on for awhile. At the end, the newly-evolved Homer takes his place on the couch next to his family and Marge says, "What took you so long?"

... the one where the couch attacks them and is shot by Moe ...
I named that one and it is a relatively recent one.

Also a relatively recent one.

Yeah, but there that was the very joke. And it wasn't nearly as long as the more recent ones.

sorry tom had to hit the bogus button on your name.

Just a little research on wiki debunks this claim

they even have a little video.
