Title: Having the same rights as everybody else is like trespassing!

That's at least the way I have to interprete this comic:

Hey, Shane, maybe you could make an episode on homophobia.

Moved.

There's a lot of potential for bogosity episodes here: not just homophobia, but the fact that government's involved in marriage AT ALL. Also, the cartoon reminds me of my standard response to Socialists who say that we don't own anything: so, you wouldn't mind if I just came and took your TV? After all, it's not yours; we don't own anything!

Well, who should organize this whole marriage thing?

Shane did a video on this subject a while back:

In my opinion, homophobia and government intervention are really two different subjects. I guess the point is that homosexual couples want to get married and have their marriage recognized by the state, but the state/government should not be involved in marriage at all. Thus making gay rights issues moot.

The individuals who get married, their family and friends, etc.

We didn't have marriage licenses in the US until the mid-19th century, and that was only to keep free blacks from marrying whites.

Okay, but what makes marriage offical, then?

Why does it need to be "official"?

That's exactly the point, though. There's no point in "marriage" if it's not "official." Otherwise, I could just claim I'm "married" to someone. I kind of do think it's a good thing that the governement is involved with marriage, as it does provide certain benefits. It also "officially" makes the two people a couple, and you can get "proof" of this marriage.

Having "unofficial" marriages kind of makes the whole point of marriage irrelevant. Therefore, going by that logic... the same-sex couples are just fine, and there shouldn't be any "anti same sex marriage" laws. The same sex couples would be at your point of view already, and the government would have to be the ones to change it so they're no longer involved. So, that's kind of backwards.

If the other person agrees, and you're both sincere, how would you not be?

QuoteI kind of do think it's a good thing that the governement is involved with marriage,

Yeah, not like the old outdated way of making it an issue for families and communities. Far better to have a government marriage system so that women can turn into property and blacks can't marry whites...

QuoteIt also "officially" makes the two people a couple, and you can get "proof" of this marriage.

Again, what's the point?

In my opinion, there is really no point to marriage at all becuase a) the state should not be involved and b) if you are an atheist, there is not point in looking good to God.

Not sure what you mean by making an issue for the community. What is that supposed to mean?

Basically, you're married if everybody recognizes that you're married. At least, everybody important to you in your daily life.

But you forget one of the best things about 'official' marriage, at least in Texas, that everything that is the husbands is 50% the wife's and vise versa.  Meaning filing for injured spouse on taxes gets us back half of his income tax rebate. lol

My husband and I were married by the justice of the peace where no mention of God was heard.

But all in all, I think Homosexual Couples should have equal rights when it comes to the whole marriage thing.  I understand that they want the state and federal governments to acknowledge that their spouse will get their social security after they die, be covered by spousal benefits, and get deductions on their taxes.

After all the government made marriage a state issue and last time I check there was a separation of church and state, there fore Religion should have NO say in the matter.
