Would number 1, passing a law ending anonymous internet usage actually work?

I'd say it would work at least as well as the War on Drugs...

I thought as much.
Please elaborate.
I ask because I know you're an IT person by trade.

I don't know how much you'd need me to elaborate. It should be clear by now through technologies like Tor and BitTorrent that there will always be an underground, people finding ways around whatever system is put in place. Besides, this would also make it a lot easier to commit identity theft, which would cause a huge backlash.

True, true.

I would imagine there would be a free market solution to this "troll" problem.
One might be getting rid of public education.  That would:
1. Increase literacy (anyone who's read posts on YouTube comments from people knows what I mean)
2. Allow freedom of association, giving people better personal (and therefore online) strategies on dealing with problematic people.

Not only that, but honestly, I really liked #3 and #2 on their list (besides the part on the latter leading up to #1 of course).

I mean, as the beginning of the cracked article explained, there is huge incentive (billions of dollars) for companies to get this troll spiel under control.
