This Week's Quote: "The similarity of arguments against the abolition of slavery and arguments against the abolition of government (as we know it) should shake the faith of all Americans who still labor under the misconception that ours is a 'government of the people, by the people, for the people.' From where I stand, it looks distressingly like an institutional complex that rests on the same shaky intellectual foundations as slavery." —Robert Higgs
So that's how you say my name (Ibrahim)! :P
Hey, if you need help before doing these, why not just ask? I can help: they're not that hard (or I could just send you an audio-record or sth).
Or maybe, come on the podcast sometime? I told you before, I'd love to have you on!
The version of that saying I'm familiar with is, "Amateurs study tactics, dilettantes study strategy, professionals study supply."
And, seriously Shane, "ee-bra-heem". It's not even an unusual name in Arabic, being the equivalent of Abraham. Surely you must hear it on TV, radio, and internet news reports from time to time? (Or perhaps you just don't have the knack for picking up pronunciation like I do. My surname has an unusual pronunciation and frequently gets a much more common one applied instead, and it's always bugged me.)

Hey, I was close! "Ee-bra-him" instead of "Ee-bra-heem."

When I'm able to. And don't forget :-[
(When will you do your next recordings? And what do I need?)
Anyways: your pronunciation's better than most southerners (evensgrey's is the closest). Hardly any get it this close. :P (seriously, some say I-bru-heem, eeberheem, ibrahem, aberahem(stsly: the hell do these people come up with an "e" sound?). My last name is even harder for most: for some reason people invert the vowel lengths.
@evensgrey: be just: most american outlets are usually no better. :P
You get used to it after a while... ;)

Perhaps it's because I'm from Canada, and I listen to CBC Radio a lot (they have an office that does nothing but issue pronunciation guides, but they seem to have a bit of a blind spot for their own broadcaster's names).
I suspect native English speakers screw up the vowel lengths in your surname because how long the vowel sounds are carries no phonetic significance in English.
Damn it, why did I have to leave Texas too soon!?!!?
