It's always hard to know for sure where the most alarmist climate change predictions come from. The predictions found in the science litterature are all about the end of the century, and yet, the most alarmist people will claim that they read said litterature. Really puzzling. It also, I think, muddies the water, as the legitimate comments about the present climate data will end up being systematically ignored by the deniers because of those stupid alarmist comments, thus creating a much thicker barrier to go through when attempting to convince people with actual scientific data.

Mario Bros. wasn't just a launch title for the NES, it was one of the bundled games.  If your bundled games aren't damn good and show what the platform is capable of, you risk blunting the extremely important initial sales spike you need to convince developers your platform is viable.  (Not getting enough launch penetration has killed multiple consoles in the past.
