This guy recently wrote an article for the New York Times entitled "The Lack of Major Wars May Be Hurting Economic Growth" (http://www.nytimes.com/2014/06/14/upshot/the-lack-of-major-wars-may-be-hurting-economic-growth.html). Wow. Just, wow. I don't know what's worse: the thought that the slaughter of innocents is somehow good or the thought that destruction creates wealth.

And it's not like there aren't PLENTY of wars going on anyway. How big does a war have to be to be a 'major' war? It seems to me the civil war in Syria is pretty damn big, and whatever kind of war you want to call it in Iraq is getting bigger all the time and could easily expand into a regional war if any of several quite plausible things happen. There's a whole bunch of wars going on in Africa, and have been for decades. Asia is fairly quiet these days, since almost all the states there have figured out that commerce can make you rich but war can only make you poor. (The major exception to this appears to be North Korea, but North Korea's rulers have always lived in a highly delusional state. Unfortunately, they're also heavily armed and appear to be quite insane, making it kind of difficult for anyone to slap them across the face and yell "Snap out of it!")
the Near East would be like the rest of Asia had it not been for the fuck-ups after World War I frankly.
But yeah, either way, it is very sick of people to want to destroy things in some deluded belief that it will improve things.
