...the world turned into a comic book?
Right now, the President of the United States can be correctly described in terms that, until quite recently, would have been laughable outside of describing a comic book supervillain:
Barack Obama is murdering people all over the world with his army of flying, killer robots.
There is no exaggeration in that sentence, and no incorrect designation of items or events. The President of the United States literally has an army of actual flying, killer robots that he really uses to kill at his own discretion, with no oversight or review by anyone. He not only claims to have the authority to do this, he claims he doesn't have to explain how he claims that authority arises.
So, precisely when did the world turn into this comic book we find ourselves living in?

If anything, it's the other way around: Bush was an incompetent wimp, and now we're seeing what someone who's actually skilled at mass murder can do!

Indeed. It's like Hawkeye always says, "1st rule of politics: saying =/= doing." Really, I find a very good rule of thumb is to just take whatever they say/hype up,
assume conclude it will have the opposite effect or be the opposite of what they say it is, and you'll be right the vast majority of the time. The bit of Bush vs Obama being a prime example of this in action.

Maybe I should have included the part about how badly written a comic book this is and now no supervillain would actually be this incompetent at it. It seemed digressive to me at the time.
(Yes, Marvel's Hate Monger would be this incompetent, but he was Hitler, after all. Doctor Doom certainly wouldn't, his shtick has always included how good he is at ruling.)
