I like how he leaves out that in a Ponzi scheme, the person operating it, takes the money and spends it: living the good life, while using some of the money from NEW investors to pay of the returns of the old inverters.
Also, in SS, you can't opt out like a normal Ponzi scheme, so that pretty much balances it out.
Yes, Ponzi schemes don't last long because, when they need to start collecting more money and reducing payouts, fewer people invest and the system implodes. With Social Security, the government can always tax you more, and since participation is compulsory they can do whatever they like with benefits and you have no option of taking your money elsewhere.
