It's not like a hologram in Star Trek or anything. It's a part of string theory's quantum gravity that says that, just as a movie can be projected on a 2D screen in 3D space, our universe could be a 4D surface in a 10- or 11-dimensional structure of hyperspace.

Is there any evidence to support any of th ese claims even being possible?

In so far as there's nothing to contradict it and it makes the math work, yes. Not really any testable predictions yet.

A past me would have said that was enough but now I really  need more before I'm willing tobuy in to it.

We're not at the point where you're SUPPOSED to "buy into it" yet.
