Title: Difference between Ayn Rand and libertarians?
Post by: Travis Retriever on December 17, 2013, 05:16:03 PM
IIRC, there is a pretty nice difference between libertarians and objectivists, but can't put my finger on it.
For when some statist prick accuses me or some other libertarian of being an objectivist, what do I say in response?
That is, what's the difference between objectivists and libertarians?

You could ignore them and not waste time arguing with them.

I mean, besides that.   For the purposes of this question, I'm referring to a person who is asking an honest question and isn't being a dick.

I wasn't able to find a definitive answer for you. As far as I can tell, "Libertarian" is a broad category, and "Objectivists" is a specific type of it. Much in the same way "Constitutionalists" and "Anarcho-Capitalists" are specific types of Libertarian.

On a Venn diagram, Objectivists and Libertarians are two overlapping circles, but neither fully encompasses the other.

Here's a lot of problems with Objectivism, most of which I agree with and have nothing to do with libertarianism:
