Title: So who used chemicle weapons in Syria?
Post by: nilecroc on September 10, 2013, 11:04:32 AM
While Obama prances around like an idiot pretending he had something to do with the chemical weapons possibly being handed over to Russia(?), I still don't know who used them. I googled it, and found no articles that contain evidence that Assad used them. So does anyone actually know who used them, is this just a distraction from the fact the Obama is a fear mongering tyrant who thinks he can strike another country on whim and the civil war that has claimed 100,000+ lives that our noble overlord completely ignored?

we simply do not know who did it. All the UN investigation concluded was that chemical weapons were indeed used, but do not as yet know who used them.

Then how the hell is Russian going to get chemical weapons from Syrian?

The point is that both sides have chemical weapons, both reports have shown that to be the case.  The problem is trying to determine who used them.  They are still running the samples through the chromatographs to determine what was used and to identify the composition.  Last I heard, they still haven't even confirmed that it was Sarin through chemical means (as opposed to the medical sign and symptom as well as devastation analysis).  Once they determine the composition of whatever was used, they can trace it forwards from manufacture in addition to backwards from use.  That should make it much easier to determine who used it, because, like I said earlier, BOTH sides have chemical weapons.

The claim Obama was making is, as I understand it, that the attack was made using rocket-delivered gas weapons and the rebels don't have the capability to do that.

Now, this is really stupid, since it's blatantly obvious that the whole region is practically littered with short-range rockets (a large portion of which were intended by Assad to be shipped to his puppets among the Palestinians to keep Israel stirred up with a constant patter of rocket fire).  If you've got your hands on chemical weapons that can be fitted to the rockets you've also laid hands on, then you're all set as far as making this kind of attack.  BOTH sides should have the capability, and I'd be surprised if they don't both have it.

Why wouldn't the regime do it?  I hate to have to do this, but Russia is being a voice of sanity (for once) on this:  Assad is WINNING and a chemical weapons strike will only draw outside fire, so him doing it makes no sense.  The rebels can only benefit from outside fire since they're losing.  We also know the rebels have previously used chemical weapons on a smaller scale.  The incredibly fractious nature of the opposition to the Assad regime means that it is quite likely some factions hate each other more than the regime and would be quite happy use chemical weapons on each other if they happened to get hold of some.
