Title: Quick question: % of crime victims who knew their attacker
Post by: Lord T Hawkeye on May 03, 2013, 08:46:04 PM
It's often been said that most murders, assaults and rapes are done by someone the victim knew.  Anyone know what exactly are the stats for that?

The infamous faulty study (which generated the claims of firearms in the home being 43 times more likely to be used against a friend or family member instead of an intruder) reports, once the math errors are corrected and suicides properly accounted for, that drug dealers in US inner city areas are 7.5 times more likely to use firearms against someone with whom they have prior contact than a complete stranger.  Of course, inner city drug dealers are most likely to use firearms against other inner city drug dealers over basic commercial disputes, most of which require some prior contact.

There was also that faulty study of more children dying. But here's the problem that stat include 20 YEAR OLD GANG MEMBERS, Prostitutes and other shady characters.

Another faulty study was about you being more likely for your gun to used against you. That stat was gathered like this. They find injured people who own guns and they don't even ask if it was their own guns that got them hurt. They just assume it was. You see how dishonest this is?
