Title: tiger farms?
Post by: 11mc22 on May 11, 2009, 12:51:38 AM
I watched the John Stossel special on the ABC website

what do you think of tiger farming?
Do you think it will save the tigers?

because it takes $4000-$10 000 to breed one tiger and just a bullet to get one off the wild

so farming could increase demand but because of that there would be increased poaching since it is cheaper.

What do you think?

or maybe...
we could give land to private owners and they could charge a certain fee for hunting on their property and they could set the rules and the limits on how much rhinos or tigers you can hunt

open up to tourists so these land owners have incentives to conserve tigers and the environment.

poaching laws are hard to enforce especially in Africa where they are heavily indebted and corruption is everywhere.
Plus they have bigger problems.

what do you think?

because farming might save them from extinction but animal cruelty is inevitable so would private owned land save endangered species?

Poaching of elephants went away in parts of Africa where they legalized hunting of elephants and made them private property. In those parts, the elephant population has rebounded, whereas in the rest of Africa they're still being poached to extinction.

Tragedy of the Commons.
