This week's quote: "If you give a good politician the power to do good things, you automatically give a bad politician the power to do bad things." —Harry Browne
People often tell me that I'm too hard on Democrats and that I'm not hard enough on Republicans but this podcast has just reaffirmed my reasons why. They're so laughably stupid that I don't need to waste my time on them. They do a good enough job making themselves look bad that they certainly don't need my help.
Yeah, people are learning not to take Republicans seriously, but unfortunately it seems to result in them taking Democrats MORE seriously.

Which is exactly why I find them to be worth my attention over Republicans.
People view Democrats as these enlightened and intelligent people, but when you get right down to it, some of the nonsense they spew is equally laughable if not MORE laughable.
I think you may be giving regulators too much credit in assuming the sperm donation debacle wasn't motivated by bigotry.

No, giving them too much credit would be assuming they had the intelligence and foresight to see this coming.
I'd bet money that if it was a hetero couple, they wouldn't get half the harrassment from the FDA.
I never underestimate the level of harassment a bureaucracy can dish out. But if it's a heterosexual couple where the male is just infertile, you don't have this same aspect of discrimination ("What, you don't expect his wife to sleep with another man, do you? That's just immoral!") as you do with a lesbian couple (read the first comment on the podcast page). So this way, it becomes something you can actually challenge in court.
Oh what a shock, the loons have come out to defend the FDA's regulations when it comes to the completely bigoted sentiment about sperm donors.
HURR DURR WUT IF HE HAZ AIDZ?! (http://forums.saiyanisland.com/showpost.php?p=1209247&postcount=12)
QuoteAnd who do you suppose would be at fault if they injected a semen of a man with HIV? Before you say hers, do you honestly believe that people won't start screaming that the FDA doesn't do their job?
Equaling this to normal insemination is also nonsensical since this is a medical procedure, and sex is certainly not. And there is a good reason why the FDA tests for medications and procedures. Mind you, I'm not defending the FDA as an institution, since they've been known to screw up; i'm defending them as a concept where we define what is medically useful or harmful. The only problem I have with this is the $300-800 price tag. What a rip off, those tests can be done at a fraction of the cost.
