They would know they were asking for a(nother) massive market failure if they do this, were Mickeysoft at all interested in consumer demand.

Here's what's going to happen if they find a way to do this:  Customers are going to demand game prices go down, to reflect the fact that they can't sell their games on afterwards, and game merchants are going to demand that game prices go up to reflect the loss of revenue from rentals and resales.  Result:  Drastic fall in game sales, which will drive developers out of the XBox.  They're probably not too happy with the PS3 either, and will be moved back towards PC games.

I think it seems a little early to assume that Microsoft will add a functionality like this. I mean, a tip from an 'anonymous industry source' doesn't give you a great deal of detail. Even then, this source apparently had no idea how they planned to implement such a system. At a point where the chipsets are supposedly entering production, this seems a bit vague. I'd prefer to wait and see what happens closer to release.
