Title: I have been bothered by this topic so I will get it off my chest
Post by: kiri2tsubasa on October 23, 2011, 05:00:57 PM
Have there ever been topics that are being discussed online or in real life that are repeated almost ad nasium.  Topics that you (or others) keep refuting but they keep coming back time and time again.

These are the ones that bother me constantly.
"Video games cost more then they did last gen (2000-2005) when a new game was only $50.00.  Now they all cost $60.00."

Actually the cost of games has been fairly consistent for a couple of generations.  In fact the last time the buying power of $50.00 was less the $60.00 was in 2005, the year the $60.00 games came in.

With out a doubt there are others, but what are some that you have come across.

Talking about video games, I tire of the myth that Australia gets games later than the US because the game companies are a bunch of meanies.

No, it's because they have the climb Mt Bureaucracy to get things imported there because Australia's import laws were made a bunch of paranoid psychos.

No, you cannot make more money by withholding products from customers.  Sega tried that and it backfired horribly.

Mind you, the movie and TV distributors don't seem to have figured that one out yet.  They persist with both staggered release dates in different markets and DVD region coding.

Actually, I can kinda-sorta understand that: releasing a new movie in different markets at different times means they can spread out the costs, especially the costs of promoting it, compared to doing it all at once. What I DON'T understand is the release of older movies and TV shows in one region but not another!
