Conversation as follows, I'm in bold and the person I'm speaking with is in Italics

QuoteHere's Perry idea for less spending :

What is the Libertarians perspective if it was considered as Perry asking for reimbursement?

Is Perry saying the Fed Govt. is taxing Texas citizens for a service they are suppose to provide?. Since the Feds are not providing that service and Texas tax collections are providing the service then please reimburse us ? - Here are the receipts to document our expenses. Please refund that portion of our federal tax payment as we provide the service ourselves.

From the Libertarian national platform:

3.4 Free Trade and Migration
We support the removal of governmental impediments to free trade. Political freedom and escape
from tyranny demand that individuals not be unreasonably constrained by government in the
crossing of political boundaries. Economic freedom demands the unrestricted movement of human
as well as financial capital across national borders. However, we support control over the entry into
our country of foreign nationals who pose a credible threat to security, health or property.

And the Florida state platform:

IV. PUBLIC SAFETY

1. Law enforcement cannot guarantee individual safety. Self protection is a personal responsibility. All individuals have the right to defend themselves and to possess the means to do so, as guaranteed by both the federal and state Constitutions.

2. State prison facilities should be used only for the incarceration of individuals who have proven themselves a threat to others.

Therefore what is an "illegal" immigrant, and why are innocent individuals locked up?

Here's another take on the subject of immigration:

Thanks for providing the "Libertarian Perspective" to my question.

See if I am interpreting the following correctly " Economic freedom demands the unrestricted movement of human as well as financial capital across national borders."  Open borders is the ideal, as long as there are no national security concerns?

Correct

Leaves me a lot of questions.

When you can think of nothing better to do - consider some of these for me.

1. What if millions flood across the borders?.

2. If  "All individuals have the right to defend themselves and to possess the means to do so each is responsible for his-her own protection"  when is there ever a national interest as opposed to the responsibility of the individual to look after his individual interest.

3. If one is paying the Fed Govt for a service (law enforcement) should they not expect that it be enforced? If it is not enforced is it unreasonable to ask for a refund as Perry has done?.

1. Millions have already fled across the border and will continue to do so. This is just like the terribly failed war on drugs, border defense is simply another money pit so that law enforcement groups can get more money. This is also why immigration reform is needed. The reason millions of people come into the country illegally is because its easier to swim the Rio Grande than climb Mount Bureaucracy.

2. Depending on which Libertarian you talk to, it may be never a national interest. I think most Libertarians would say that a public police force should only be used for enforcing basic laws such as murder, rape, robbery, etc. Crimes where there is a definite victim. However, they would also stress that each person should help defend themselves. This is why Libertarians are strong champions of the 2nd amendment, amongst other things.

3. Perry is not asking for a refund, he is saying Texas is housing these illegals and has occurred those costs because of it. The federal government has no legitimate law enforcement role and should not be something taxpayers need to support. Most of these illegals are probably in jail for victimless crimes (Drug possession) or crimes committed because of their immigration status. This goes back to the need for legitimate immigration reform. If you provide the means for people to easily enter this country legally and gain employment legally, the amount of immigrants in jail would fall dramatically.
