This Week's Quote: “One of the greatest delusions in the world is the hope that the evils in this world are to be cured by legislation.” —Thomas Brackett Reed

You have no idea how happy I am to see the story about the Canadian NHS. I tell people all the time about how Canada's healthcare isn't better than ours and in some cases is far worse due to long waiting for important surgeries, yet the worshipers of the omnipotent state cult claim that it's not true despite the fact that there is evidence to prove it. This is just another nail in their coffin as far as I'm concerned.

People cheering 18 month cap on waiting lists is just pathetic.  For comparison, my lasik surgery had me seeing a doctor in 3 days for the consultation and less than a month later, I was free from glasses.  This was COSMETIC surgery.  Shouldn't we have HIGHER expectations for major treatments?  This is not rocket science folks!

Anyway, in the interest of good record keeping, what say we go through the list of ammendments to see how it's holding up?

1. Free speech
They attack it every chance they get but the internet thankfully makes it nigh impossible to fully suppress.  Worst is cases like marijuana clinics who aren't even allowed to present the facts to defend themselves.  When the truth is inadmissable in court, you've got some problems.

2. Bear arms
Dead in some states and dying a slow death in others

Remind me of the others and how they're doing?
I recently heard that the word heretic is derived from the greek work heriticos which means "able to choose"
The more you know...

As for the first item--and the Indiana Supreme Court rulings--as if I needed yet ANOTHER reason for anarchic common law.

"'The USA...carries $4.3 trillion in debt.'"
I think you meant "$14.3 trillion in debt."  I just checked the article, and that was about what they said.

According to the U.S. National Debt Clock : Real Time, the current US National Debt is $14.4 trillion (as of this posting).  The source being the U.S. Treasury itself.
Note that this doesn't include unfunded liabilities OR local & municipal debt.  Added together (as of this second), I get a figure of $131.3 trillion.

Not only that, but was I the only one disturbed by their use of GDP as if it was the government's income?  That would mean they think the government owns ALL of EVERYONE's income, labor, etc.

Thanks, but this story was about the British NHS, not Canadian. Although Canada also has a problem with long wait times.

Exactly.

I just noticed that. Either way though the same arguments can be applied, which is fine by me.

You're quite welcome. ;)  Ain't those bogons a bitch?

Meh, a quick revisionist edit later and it's all good.

Might any of the future bogosity episode include the fear that was generated with the whole PSN hack/credit card scare, and remove the idea that it is possible to make things hack proof?  The reason I ask is that I do not trust many journalist or even game journalist, mainly due to the sensationalistic feel that some new story's go.  For instance some person takes $20, and some how this is translated to him stealing $100 or something.

It needs to be said that that's not all USA today cherry picked.  Given the figures I cited ($131.3 trillion) for the all of the USA's states, local governments, the federal government's debt AND the unfunded liabilities, doing the math, you get a debt to GDP ratio of 8.96 (rounded up as that number keep going up, such that it will have validity for a bit longer, of course).

However, as I've already explained morally, and you economically, you don't use GDP as the "income" of government.  After all, that isn't "our" debt.  It's the government's.
You'd have to use total tax revenues, which, according to the U.S. National Debt Clock would be roughly $4.6 trillion.
That gives an "income to debt" ratio of roughly 29.  That's a LOT higher than their quoted "1 to 1 ratio".
