They're getting desperate!

This is how desperate the dogmatists over on the very-misnamed "League of Reason" are getting in their attempts to discredit me:

Gee, I'm so sorry I didn't get into the three-body problem in the HALF A SECOND I had left in the YouTube time limit...

...what's the problem?  As far as I can tell, your statement wasn't wrong.  It didn't go into all the details but it wasn't wrong.
I recently heard that the word heretic is derived from the greek work heriticos which means "able to choose"
The more you know...

He's taking the Expelled route: show a brief clip out of context, then cut to stock footage to incur ridicule.

Of course, I didn't have time to go into all the details, but my response was twofold:

1) Satellites do have to make adjustments all the time. There's drag from atmosphere (not as much with geosynchronous satellites, but it's still there), orbital tugs from the sun, moon, etc., and relativistic effects. All of these things confirm an orbiting Earth and even relativity.

2) Since satellites have to make these adjustments, they need fuel, and when they run out of fuel they reach the end of their operational lifespan. So the more fuel the satellite has once it's in orbit the longer it can operate, saving money. Launching from the equator gives the rocket a 1600 km/h boost, meaning the rocket needs less fuel, meaning the payload can be greater, meaning the satellite can have more fuel, lengthening its life. This could only happen if the Earth were rotating.

I had to be briefer than that, of course, but they showed none of that.

The whole thing's an irony. They accused me of not really being a skeptic, just using skepticism to gain false credibility, when that's exactly what they're doing!

The League of Reason are false skeptics producing bogosity.

I see.  I've never run into them before but I'll remember this in case I do.  Disgraceful indeed.

I remember reading some of that same guy's posts on the League of Reason forums. I never joined, but still read them.

He's a complete ignoramus. Little more than a sophistic pile of garbage. There's no point in discussing anything with him. Hell, his use of "V" as an avatar is almost disgustingly hypocritical.

I got the same treatment from pretty much everyone there when I was a member...which wasn't long.

Oh, god!
Not that dogmatic piece of shit for brains, MasterGhostKnight again. >_<
He's the same fucktard who said claimed in an argument with me and Shane that people must be worth what they can get from their job, otherwise I'd be contradicting myself.
Needless to say, I stopped after that:  it wasn't worth my time dealing with that creationist wannabe.

What a prick he is.

Same could be said of:
Anarchist Cain (Laughing Man), Daniel, Harry Felkner and a few others from the Mises Forum...

They banned you???
Did you try to post more about capitalism, or were they still sore about that last time regarding healthcare?

I just got up the stomach to watch that guy's video.
My opinion is:
I'll say as much, MGK seems to know his math and satellite physics, I'll give him that (can't say for sure, as I'm not that qualified in the area).  However, he could have used a different color font at times so it didn't blend in with the background, and maybe took another course in English so his sentences would make better sense...

The biggest problem:  He uses an equivocation fallacy.  Shane is clearly talking about artificial satellites, not nature ones.  MGK would have had to have downloaded that video to edit it in:  There's no way he could not have known that.

Somebody tell me when the creator of that video proof reads his shit, then get back to me. Half-way through I've decided that an 11-year old made it trying to win a contest for most egotistical.

Okay okay, I just watched the whole thing, including the end. I shared some of my thoughts on his video's comment page.

From what I gather, he's doing something like "clip mining" where he's taking your clips out of context, and tries to make you seem like a fool for answering something completely irrelevant out of context.

So, apparently you explaining that Satellites need fuel and have a "lifespan," is somehow your answer to something else... when it was stating something different.. and, the statement wasn't even wrong to begin with.

The way he's answering his comments and the way he did this video kind of reminds me of the way Creationists reply and deal with people they disagree with... And trust me, I have a large amount of experience in talking with Creationists.

No, I just left in disgust.
Same here with the Mises forum.

Apparently the person who made this video thinks you meant that all objects need engines to orbit the earth, including the moon. He claims that you think the moon has a rocket attached to it.
