How many websites would be infected with common malware like that if admins would just take the entirely reasonable precaution of periodically running one of the automatic vulnerability scanners for the applicable target type?  They've only been around for over 20 years, and attackers certainly will use them.  If you get rooted because of a known exploit detected by a free scanner, who's fault is that?  (It would be like not checking to make sure you've locked all the doors and windows of your house when you go away for a week-long vacation.)
