On the subject of Faithless Electors, according to Wkipedia there has never been anyone prosecuted for being a faithless elector and it simply hasn't been a problem in any election.

Not only is it a good thing that the second Bush kept his cool when he learned about 9/11, there's a famous picture that happened to be taken at the moment he was told of the second plane strike on the WTC (he was visiting a primary school at the time, which is yet another reason why it was good he didn't freak out, it would have pointlessly frightened the children had he done so).  Here it is:



He's clearly using the practiced control of someone used to dealing with horrible things in a calm and calculated way. I've always though he went flat because he knew, in a fair degree of detail, how the rest of his Presidency was going to go, and wasn't all that happy about it.  (He had TRIED to fulfill his father's failed goal of sending people to Mars, but that went up in smoke with the attacks.)
