I thought of something else I probably should have mentioned on the podcast.  The smaller quantity of data isn't necessarily a point against the e-cigs either.  Menno explained very well (with an example) here: https://bretcontreras.com/powerful-stats/ that when an effect is seen with small amounts of data, it could imply the effect is that much more reliable and higher in magnitude, etc.  Especially as e-cigs are improved via the folks making them, made cheaper, better, etc.

Well, I'm not sure how much cheaper they can get.  In the UK they have disposables that go for a pound each (and at least some of them have a rechargeable lithium battery assembly that can be recovered from them, according to Big Clive).
