IIRC, Bill Clinton was the first President to admit that there IS a highly classified aviation facility in Area 51 of the Las Vegas Bomb and Gunnery Testing Range.  Of course, he admitted it only incidentally to declaring hat former employees were not allowed to sue for harm caused by exposure to the rampant pollution there.

(Yes, that's the name given to the federal land claim that covers the vast majority of Nevada.  It's divided up into something like 60 different areas, each designated by number.  When the public first became aware of it, what is now more precisely called the Groom Lake facility was called 'Area 51' because that was the only official designation anyone could find for anything in the area.  And by 'highly classified', most of the projects there are operating at what's commonly called 'Black' security levels.  If you ask for information on something at the normal US security levels of Classified, Secret, or Top Secret and you don't have the correct level of security clearance, the answer you get works out to 'Insufficient Clearance'.  If you ask about a Black project and you don't have adequate security clearance, the answer you get works out to "No such project exists.")
