This Week's Quote: "Submitting to censorship is to enter the seductive world of 'The Giver': the world where there are no bad words and no bad deeds. But it is also the world where choice has been taken away and reality distorted. And that is the most dangerous world of all." —Lois Lowry

Of course, the idea of regulating the internet somehow isn't new, even in france, but they have been talking about it non stop since the attacks ... First thing they do is closing borders, as if a country could be perfectly sealed (good luck on that morons), and authorize searches without warrants (Sure, make yourself at home, you have guns after all) ... Now they can't stop yapping about making themselves the masters of the internet ... What annoys me the most about this is that I know that nobody will fucking care when election time comes. At that point, all the discourse will fall back on the old topics and the corresponding talking points ... In other words, a president can be as stupid as he wants, all that remains is what is said during the campaign.

I don't know if any of you know this, so here's a funny anecdote about how stupid you can be and still work in the government of the french republic : ELF Aquitaine (An energy corporation) has been the victim of a scam during the mandate of ValĂ©rie Giscard d'Estaing ( 20th president, 1974-1981). Someone actually convinced them and the government that they had invented a technology that could "smell" oil from the sky. They were supposed to mount that shit on a plane and survey the french territories with it. There was several contracts signed to invest money in the research and one instance of drilling a site supposed to hold oil. More than 1 billions francs (190M euros - 210M$) were actually spent on this. At that time, ELF Aquitaine, later bought by TOTAL, was a national company. The government had to validate the idea before it could go that far. I mean, you can't make that shit up. But hey, given the fact that it is of common knowledge that a lot of political  figures actually see psychics, maybe it shouldn't be that surprising ...
