I think this adequately describes the situation:

So out of curiosity, what was the Harper government like? I need some context here.
Meh

OTOH, it looks like the Canadian LP is doing better than ever: http://tinyurl.com/CanadaLP2015

Well, I'll make my own elections, with blackjack and hookers !

Nice. Hopefully, the vote that the potheads didn't get went to the libertarian party. That would be a sign that people actually listen sometimes.

I forgot to mention that the link in the original post doesn't work anymore.

Difficult to describe, really.  They did manage to get the economy growing, and contain the size and cost of the civil service (which the Liberals appear to be planning to undo as fast, and EXPENSIVELY, as possible).  We're going to be going back into deficit spending and blowing gobs and gobs of money on random nonsense without regard for what would be useful.  (Although perchance I can hope for a real alternative to DSL.)

Unfortunately, the Libertarian Party of Canada isn't really up to much these days.  If they're going to be that stupid...

Changed to a more durable one (where you can even check riding by riding to see the individual races).

So if the economy is growing, and spending is more efficient, why did the people vote Liberal?
Meh

Canada has a tendency to go for change for change's sake.

Oh, and then there's an old sketch from The Royal Canadian Air Farce, from about  1980 or so, in which Luba Goy is explaining to a recent immigrant all about how democracy works, and finishes with "...and then Trudeau wins!"  (I looked, but couldn't find it online.)
