It was my understanding that Martha Stewart was convicted not of lying to law enforcement, but of telling them the truth in a way that was inconvenient for them.

And we've lost Christopher Lee too?  Damn, we need a new Metal God.

Yeah, pretty much. Their "proof" that she lied was someone who worked as her assistant, who backed up everything she said until they threatened to prosecute HIM, then said they wouldn't if he'd testify against her. How that isn't witness tampering, I have no idea.
