This Week's Quote: "We have to offer up scary scenarios, make simplified, dramatic statements, and make little mention of any doubts we may have. Each of us has to decide what the right balance is between being effective and being honest." —Stephen Schneider

Okay, long post will be long!  Yes, I would have wanted to be on this podcast and would have said a lot.  But I'm still glad that Hawkeye was on.  We missed you, bro. :)
It was also nice to see you both give Dr. Oz, anti-vaxxers and the environmentalists a well earned ass reaming.

On the BBE (I read the article before listening to the podcast):
Gotta love environmentalists.  I swear, these people are such misanthropes!

I'm reminded of the Plymouth Plantation famines.  And (in more recent times) the brown outs across the country, especially around New York City and in CA, resulting from so called "de-regulation".

As for the stuff from the Naturopaths:
The hype and marketing crap reminds me of the folks hyping supplements and gourmet bling:  you know, organic/non-GMO crap, and basically vilifying any kind of food they don't like (e.g. Paleo & Keto doing it to grain, among other things).  At this point, Unless I see some damn good evidence showing what they say is true, I will conclude it to be just more marketing bullshit like it has been for the last 30+ years now.  Haven't these people ever heard of the boy who cried wolf?

12:15 aka rape by fraud.  That is the term Hawkeye is looking for.

16:45 Between crap like this.  The fact that government legally prohibits even dying people from taking drugs still in the throes of the FDA's efficacy testing, but doesn't require ANY testing for alt med/naturopathic bullshit tells you despite their claims about them being "oppressed" they are not.  If anything, THEY'RE the privileged class, because they get away with this shit, whereas if a real doctor tried to pull the crap they did, they'd be tarred and feathered and crucified.   Last I checked, the FDA's founder was a Homeopath.  Fuck these people.  Reminds me of SJWs, and Christians for that matter, doesn't it?

18:00 ish:  Chronic Lyme Disease doesn't exist?  Really?  Good to know. :)

20:20  adding to this, more often than not, the government protects them! Hell, given the Snowden deal, government is often the one we need protection from! I mean, come on!

24:00 That seems to be a common thing with bogus statistics.  The "we use 10% of our brains" thing, the "men thing about sex every 7 seconds" bit.  The bit you discussed earlier of the farmers using 80% of CA's water.  Boy, woos love their bogus statistics, don't they?  It's like a contagious form of brain cancer, only worse, in that bogosity likely kills a LOT more people.

24:30 in other words, Comedian 101 violation.  I mean, come on! That's part of the fun of listening to their stories.  Keeping it vague to keep people guessing.  It's a reason I like the stories told by John Pinette!

25:45  I once asked this to a furry SJW sympathizer on twitter.   They gave me a one page word document about how it was a capitalist/patriarchy conspiracy.  And when I called him out on it having nothing refuating the point he just reasserted it/ignored the criticism and carried on, until eventually, after deleting the entire conversation, he whined, "well, I guess I shouldn't talk about this stuff.  I'm either called an SJW or a race traitor."  Dude.  You make a stupid statement, people will call you out on it.  Deal with it.

27:30  It's a reason that, while I do roll my eyes whenever someone makes a weak attempt to say, "but the furry fandom isn't about sex!" I also understand it's not something unique to it either.  Like you said, humans are sexual creatures and this is something helped by most furs being in the 13 to 30 male demographic.  Read: The horniest demographic, along with cherry picking & confirmation bias in the press.  So of course there is going to be lots of sex involved.  That's not a furry thing specifically, so much as it is a healthy young adult thing!

27:35 Not to say it won't stop them from trying...and ruining innocent lives as a result.

30:00 I'm reminded of people who were actually criminally charged and arrested for taking pictures of their babies in the bath.  Yeah, some dipshit at Kodak or Polaroid or whatever who was developing the photos had a moral panic and called the police.  Fuck these busybody assholes.

30:40 basically the same thing as the war on drugs.  It would be nice to hear some liberals complain about this war on teenage sex as well...Anyone else remember back when Bush was in office and they were in nice-guy/hippy mode?  I remember. I miss those days. :(

36:00 anyone else reminded of the people who, during the Victorian Era moral panics on male boys masturbating made shit up about circumcision & masturbation?  Or the folks who make shit up about pot and other drugs?  All because of the, "well it's okay to lie because it's for a good cause!" mentality? Folks, listen carefully:  If you have to lie or use the initiation of force it most likely is NOT a good cause.  Period.

36:20 And of course, that regression analysis you (Shane) did showing that, the more economically free a country is, the better the environment is.  Why these people think govco is the solution to this I'll never know.

40:00  The first thing I thought when I saw that quote was, "AH THE SKY IS FALLING THE SKY IS FALLING!" What? He might as well be saying that.

Just once I'd like to see one of these ivory tower pillocks call out govco and its destruction of the environment.  Just once!  Given governments are the biggest polluters in the world by far even if you don't count war, if someone goes off about the environment and proposes a political solution, that person is a hack and a bullshiter you can safely ignore.

43:18 I know Tim already said so, but, yeah, Norman Borlaug says 'Hi." ;3

44:39 I'd argue that, if anything, it's not a hump, but a hill that goes downward.  I recall Ladyattis (back when he wasn't an SJW nutbar) note that, back when horse carriages were the norm, there was a LOT of crap from those horses.  To the point where people were predicting cities flooded with over 8 feet of shit.  Literally.  Surprise, surprise it didn't happen.  Funny how that works...

45:00 ish
>Nitrogen build-up.
Um, he DOES know that the Earth's atmosphere is like 78% Nitrogen, right? Good lord, this is Food Babe tier fail here!

45:20 I'm reminded of David Wong and the environmentalists who say, "WAH STOP EATING RED MEAT! IT USES UP TOO MUCH WATER!"  Have these people never heard of the water cycle?  Good lord, this is stuff I'd expect a 3rd grader to know!  Folks, stop listening to the hippies who don't know what they're talking about!

45:57 ZING!

46:10 The people with Malaria say 'hi.'

46:45  IIRC, we're not running out of oil, but cheap oil.  And even then:  technology improvements lead to increases in supply as they always have.   #BroDoYouEvenEconomics

48:16..."Gaylord" I laughed on the inside at that name...I am going to hell. >.>;;

49:00 is this guy trying to break Krugmen's record?  Good lord!

49:25 And because of corporations being given permission by the environmentalists holy governments in those areas to butcher that land.  It only happens on government land, not privately owned land.  Funny how that works...and yet these people want even MORE government control and ownership...yeah, Shane beat me to it again.  Oh well.  Still a valid point.

49:50  And people wonder why the rest of us aren't taking the Climate Change hysteria seriously.  Hell, you could say the same thing about nearly all of these quotes presented really.  Sorry, but Appeal to Apocalypse is a threat, not an argument.

50:40 *applause!* Well said, Tim. :)

Yeah, Shane said it better on that last quote than I could have.  Well done both of you! :)

A final note:  At first I thought Hawkeye was being too hard on the scientists themselves for not calling out govco.  Now after seeing they were often the ones instigating the panics, I think you, Shane and Stef weren't hard enough on them.

It reminded me of what Alan Aragon called the "fat free 80s" which was 1) around the time obesity was becoming a problem and (surprise!) when govco also starting getting more and more involved; with both scientific and lay press characterizing all dietary fat as the bad guy...despite even cracked.com calling bullshit and noting the idea that it is different kind of fats having different effects had been known for nearly half a century before!  Outright shameful of those people to do that!
"When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world—'No. You move.'"
-Captain America, Amazing Spider-Man 537

Wow, even I fell for that 80% BS.  Reason magazine didn't do any fact-checking that time.  But yeah California's rationing response and the regulations in general are ridiculous
Working every day to expose the terrible price we pay for government.

This exact form of doom-saying certainly didn't start in 1970 (Silent Spring and the Club of Rome's "Limits to Growth" are just some of the better known examples from the 1960's).  People have been predicting the end of oil within 20 years for about 100 years now (since oil became an essential resource in modern economies), failing to grasp that the reason there's 20 years supply in the ground is because that's what the oil producers are happy with, so that's the amount they spend the money to prove out.  (This raises an interesting fact about Norway's oil industry:  When last I checked, they had a worrying 7 years oil in the ground, leading to the real possibility they might run out in the relatively near term.  Not a worry for others, but a disaster for Norwegians, many of whom don't know anything about working for a living any more.)

We had wage and price controls in Canada as well, but it was from 1975 to 1978 (and then in 1982 and 1983 the federal government legislated public sector wage increases to no more than 6% and 5% respectively, although it was noted afterwards that wages rebounded to the expected levels had no caps been imposed).
