"worst thing since New Coke"

ooh snap!

frankly, I though it was the worst thing since Windows 7....worst thing since Windows Vista....

actually, I remember when Stephanie (a coworker) had to get a new computer, and Windows 8 was the only option. sat there and watched just because I'm that kind of sadist, to watch as she writhed while installing it.

ended up we both had fun making fun of it. She's awesome!

oh, and LIVE!!!!111!!1 *waits for D to writhe in agony*

As to Syria: yeah, I'm used to this crap by now. I've given up all hope on the US leaving...

Meh

So it sounds like I actually didn't do too bad for a first time. XD Good to know. :)

For some reason, the podcast player isn't showing up on this page for me.

You did great! Just some audio problems to work out for next time.

Fixed.

I played with a Windows 8 notebook in Walmart a while back, and concluded that Windows 8 was unusable within about 15 seconds.

Unlike Windows Vista (which people compare it to), Windows 8 doesn't conform to any sane way to use a desktop or notebook.  Vista basically works essentially the same way as Windows XP, with a few more bells, whistles, and gongs, and a whole bunch of stuff renamed.

And a whole bunch of other stuff broken.

Windows 8 is pretty much the opposite: there's great stuff going on under the hood, but the user interface was made by a bunch of mindless jerks who'll be the first against the wall when the revolution comes.

Maybe it's because I went from Windows Me and Windows 2000 Workstation, maybe it's because I've got Vista 64 bit, maybe it's because I got it after SP1, but nothing seemed to be broken (beyond the way Windows is always broken and simply cannot be controlled properly using the included tools, unlike any correctly constructed OS).

And we go from Monty Python (and I have one of the albums with that bit on it) to Douglas Adams (and I have the books [without the Belgium upgrade], the TV series on VHS, and the movie on DVD, the last of which sadly does not include that bit).

Get the radio series! IMO, it's the best of the bunch.

You good sir, just earned a cluon for this post. :) As I had to help my mom get her notebook/laptop set up when she bought it--and it came with Windows 8. T_T
The folks I've talked to say they feel it was designed for Tablet PC or Smartphones or something.  Whatever they had in mind, it most certainly was NOT a laptop/notebook, much less a desktop.

What they THOUGHT they were going to do was put the same interface on everything from the smallest phone, through tablets, notebooks, up to multi-screen desktops, and damn the fact that the interface doesn't work for crap with a mouse.

Under the hood, it DOESN'T unify the software, the tablet apps are entirely different from applications for notebooks and desktops.

Essentially, this is pretty much the exact opposite of what a sane person would want to do if they were trying to unify across that range of platforms.

Which Ubuntu did much better with Unity.

One more reason to go Linux, I guess.  I just hope it'll allow me to play my games on Steam. XD
I'm told to have my harddrive set up to have both Ubuntu and Windows by Hawkeye's friend Wraith and others.  Why do you think, Shane?

Don't know what it takes to run Steam; see what others have set up. If it doesn't work under WINE, your options are to run Windows in a virtual machine (VirtualBox is free) or to set it up to dual-boot. So see if they've gotten it to work under WINE or VirtualBox; if not, dual-boot's the way to go.
