I'm surprised nobody has gotten around to this before now.

The Supreme Court of Canada has, in a 9-0 ruling, overturned the three principle criminal prohibitions against prostitution in Canada (street solicitation, operating a brothel, and living on the avails of prostitution) on the basis that the effect of these laws has been to directly cause harm to prostitutes.

OK, so the ruling doesn't take effect for a year, but that's just because they're not saying that this cannot be legislated on, just that things cannot be permitted to remain as they are and what kind of change must happen.

Seems like a non-story to me. They basically overturned it on a technicality and Canada has a year to make it "properly" illegal.

Because they're not striking down the laws because humans have rights. They struck it down because government can fix the law and make it all better.
