We have talked about police in a free society. But some of you would probably be thinking "what about defense" in your heads. And when we talk defense we are talking military not local law enforcement. Here are some theories.

One would be much like with the police, basically an insurance model, which like I mentioned before means that if you don't pay a defense agency that is guarding the area you don't get their services.

Alternatively if people believe that collective defense is to big of an issue community organizers could start a donation to fund training their soldiers, buy weapons,  or make it a prerequisite that you pay for defense. Since they might want to a large geographical era, let say the entire american east coast or the entire continental US community organizers, mutual protection/aid societies and insurance agencies might want to ban together to fund collective defense. If you don't pay you won't have men with guns come down on you and throw you in a cell or anything but you will get black listed by the society and you won't be able to by food, get loans etc until you start paying your dues. They would also put in audits etc to prevent the defense agency or agencies from going rogue.

Any more input? Opinions?

Any other ideas?

["] you will get black listed by the society and you won't be able to by food, get loans etc until you start paying your dues. [/"] Then we might as well keep paying taxes, and keep the professional army we already have because either way we're being forced to pay for it. Oh, except this idea is much worse. The only thing that happens now is you get a letter from the IRS, and after a long while, maybe court, and then after a long while maybe jail...Where they give you food.

The Blacklist theory is actually not from me, it's from Jacob Spinney.

Not exactly. Taxes are a percentage of your income, they will must likely going on fees (like a gym membership fee). if you don't pay your taxes the government will come after you with guns and will throw you in a cell, not to mention seize all your property and sell them. Like I said before we are not going to use the threat of violence like mentioned above against said individual. This is just mere disassociation from the said individual.

OK How about instead of a complete blacklist, we could use a credit score system, or maybe have their societal reputation tarnished? Or have the Insurance agency/agencies contact utilities and cut off water and power etc?

Remember there will also be no monopoly on the use of force so other competitors will be around to keep the dominate defense agency in check. Think of Google, it is the most used search engine in the US but it's not only one, there is Bing, ask.com, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo etc. If Google tries something bad then the competitors will come in.

I haven't quite worked out all bugs yet, So you guys can make some edits, input your own ideas etc.

All that's fine, right up to the part where you turn off the water and power. (Unless the specific bill not paid happens to be the water or power bill.)

And it's very rare the gov't comes after you with guns etc over a tax bill.

Other than that, we already do kinda blacklist people that not pay their bills...through a credit score system, and I guess societal reputation - although the later is rarely because you didn't pay the plumber. I guess we could use that for like, if you not pay your child support. Anyhow, how about instead of they turn off your power, water, take away your septims and refuse to sell you food; you can still get all those things - at a slightly higher rate.

Ah consumer incentives, that's clever.  :)

Why didn't I think of that?  :P

You could just build a robot army that will only listen to me for defense...
