I go to this video everytime I here someone mention the public good. Especially when I read about British politicians who seem to spout it everytime they need justification for their bullshit policies. What do you think.

I say something like "Ooh!  A vague, unprovable, undemonstratable and completely subjective argument!  Truly you are the master of empiricle debating!"

What's really going on here is a thief is putting a gun to the head of a miner and saying "pay me a share of your profits so I won't shoot you in the head for producing iron."
Then he goes to the people who use the metal to making farming equipment and says "pay me a share of your profits so I won't shoot you in the head for building tractor parts."
Then he goes to a farmer and says "Pay me a licence fee so I won't shoot you in the head for producing milk."
Then he goes to the store owner and says "Pay me a share of your profits so I won't shoot you in the head for selling milk."
Then the thief puts a gun to your head and says "Pay me some of the money in your wallet so I can give it back to you later."
At every step, the thief pockets some of the money for his own expenses so when added up, the milk is not more expensive and you have less money to buy it with.
If that's the public good, then fuck the public good.
