Florida Libertarian Gubernatorial candidate Adrian Wyllie appeared in Polk County on July 31, 2013. He spoke in Frostproof and Lake Wales to garner support from locals. His appearances are part of his statewide tour, during which he has traveled 30,000 miles across the state this year.

Having formerly served two years as the Chairman of the Libertarian Party of Florida, the membership of which increased by over 1,200 percent under his leadership, he announced his candidacy for the 2014 Florida Governor's Race earlier this year following the end of his term as LP Chairman.

Since then, his grassroots campaign have been growing with over 500 volunteers and a core staff of 50 people. As a Libertarian candidate, he strongly believes in and campaigns on personal and economic liberties.

During the evening, he made several jabs at Florida Governor Rick Scott, whom, despite having sold himself as a "fiscal conservative" who promised to cut spending and reduce taxes,
has increased the state budget by $73.5 billion per year; by comparison, Russia's annual defense budget is $70 billion.

Wyllie bemoaned how Gov. Scott and Florida Republicans tout his "fiscal conservatism" by claiming the Governor slashed the state budget, when, in reality, he cut $385 million from his proposed $4.5 billion state budget increases.

"That is what they call a cut today," Wyllie said.

Wyllie also berated the Governor over his stances on healthcare and gun rights, as he had previously implemented the Medicare expansion to the Affordable Care Act and had arrested and removed a Florida sheriff for refusing to book a suspect for carrying a concealed weapon without a permit--an action which prompted Wyllie to stage a rally outside the Governor's office in Tallahassee earlier this year.

If elected Governor, Wyllie seeks to improve the Florida economy by implementing his Intrastate Commerce Act, which would make any good or service originating, sold, and distributed in Florida immune from federal regulation. His act is expected to attract businesses to the state while allowing small local businesses to flourish, all while providing an economic model for other states to emulate.

He also pledges to ensure that funds remain local, criticizing how the federal government collects taxes from the states and provides them only a fraction of what they originally gave to fund their services.

"It's like getting in your car and driving completely to the Pacific Ocean, getting on a freighter, going across the entire globe, coming back to the other side of the state, renting a car, going back to your house in order to get to the bathroom," Wyllie stated.

As Governor, he plans on having a litmus test for any bill he has to sign, and will veto it if it does not meet any of his four criteria: Is it constitutional? Can we afford it? Is it a necessary and proper role of government? Does it address the root cause of the problem?

As he expects that most bills that reach his desk will not meet his litmus test, he expects to veto 99 percent of them, and considers it a positive measure if it means preventing laws that do more harm than good.

Addressing the small gatherings for his appearances, he not only vied for their support and donations, but also urged them to take a stand for their Constitutional rights in their personal lives: "One crazy libertarian fighting the Department of Commerce is not going to make a difference in the long run, but if we get a hundred or thousand or million people fighting like that, standing up for their personal liberty, standing up for their economic freedom, that changes everything. Let's stop them at the ballot box! Let's stop them here and now through peaceful, non-violent civil disobedience! Let's fight them in the election booth so that our children don't have to fight them in the streets!"

Adrian Wyllie is a third generation Florida native, having been born in Dunedin on May 17, 1970. He has been happily married for 22 years to his wife, Dawn, and have two sons. He has served in the U.S. Army and Florida National Guard, and is president of the IT consulting firm White Hat Info Tech Co.
