17:30 - Idiot Extraordinaire: Sylvia Browne http://www.livescience.com/29394-psychic-claimed-amanda-berry-dead.html

This Week's Quote: "The psychic business is built on lies. There is no supernatural power. You can't see the future. We're in the golden age of the con. There are people coming out of the woodwork that would love to separate you from your money. But people just want someone to talk to. That's the bottom line." —Mark Edward

Kudos to Potholer54 for bringing in the fucking sun too!
Something that dbag in the documentary I posted asking about didn't even TRY to do!
"When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world—'No. You move.'"
-Captain America, Amazing Spider-Man 537

I hate these "psychics" with a passion.  >:(

It's one thing when Ms. Cleo rips off dumb suckers by pretending to tell their future, but when cons like Sylvia Brown prey upon the insecurities of grieving parents by pretending to know the fate of their missing children, that's just criminal, or at least it ought to be criminal.

And what's worse is when these con artists sell their false hope in the guise of religion, as is the case with faith-"healers" like Peter Popoff.

When I was young, I remember watching with my father a televangelist interviewing members in his congregation, and he asked one man what he would do if he got sick. The man said he would see a doctor. "A doctor?" the televangelist asked. "Why would you wanna see a doctor?" The man replied he wanted to get better. "To get better?" The televangelist asked again. "You don't need no doctor to get better. All you need is Jesus!"

Even as a kid growing up in a fundamentalist Christian home, I recognized that for the BS it was. You want to believe in God and Jesus and the Bible? Fine. But when you start trusting your health in the hands of your religion rather than in modern medicine, you're taking your faith way too far. And when you start doing the same for your children's health, you prove yourself incapable of raising children.

What especially irritates me is when "rational, freethinking" atheists rightfully mock faith healing when they themselves partake in similar woo such as alternative medicine. Folks like Bill Maher and Jenny McCarthy come to mind. To them, it's ridiculous when a religious person prays to God to cure their cancer; but when an atheist turns to homeopathy for the cure, that's apparently more rational? Ignoring modern medicine is "logical" and "reasonable" as long as you're an atheist? How can I, as someone who believes in a water-walking carpenter, see the blatant doublethink that more "logical" and "rational" atheists cannot?

So kudos, Shane, and the other atheists here on Bogosity, for being more consistent with your skepticism and your stance on logic, reason, and evidence. At least I know you all are being genuine about it.

No Sovereign but God. No King but Jesus. No Princess but Celestia.

On behalf of myself and the other atheists here, you're welcome. :)  But yeah, if you really wanna see the stupid Shane gets from that side, check out the comments in his video on Anti-vaxxers.  Needless to say it ain't pretty.  Or, check out the comments from many so-called 'skeptics' and 'rationalists' (who just turn it all off) in the comments in any of his many political or economic videos.

And they tell me whenever I go after Paul Krugman or one of their Holy Government Departments that while I do a good job the rest of the time, on this subject I just get bug-nutty. And I keep asking them, what am I doing differently? How are my takedowns of Krugman any different than my takedowns of, say, Kent Hovind? No one can give me an answer.

@Podcast bit regarding Climate Change--don't act or pretend it's just the climate change deniers.  The alarmists are also to blame, as they spam their bullshit about Armageddon.  Many people who become deniers are just sick of hearing about it from alarmist shitheads--something you've more or less said to an alarmist when debating them on that Tim Slagle video about Global Warming.  Others (like Militant-Mike1) are just tired of it as an excuse for even MORE gov't intervention into our personal lives.  If there's a solution to this, it will be from a free market, not more gov't bullshit.  And if not, then that's just the way it goes.

That's the one issue I *do* have with the video by Potholer54.  Is that he ignores that people have been saturated by alarmist dipshits who might as well be screaming the sky is falling.

Just my two cents.

I actually used to be a global warming denier myself and an Alex Jones fan. funny huh? Now that I look back I think I looked just silly. ;D
