Nice to see your co-hosts bringing their A-game as usual. :)

Regarding the bit 7 minutes in about people being good/evil, I believe Hawkeye put it best--the reason WHY that kind of horrible stuff is news in the first place is BECAUSE it's so unusual.  When the news starts reporting nothing but sunshine and unicorn farts, THAT'S when it's time to panic.
"When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world—'No. You move.'"
-Captain America, Amazing Spider-Man 537

My response to that Gitmo story:

Seriously, why that abomination hasn't been shut down and burned to the ground yet, I'll never know.

Funny enough, on the news right now they're saying that the older Tsarniev brother went back to his home country a few years ago and claimed that it "changed his life forever." Apparently the FBI had a run in with him back in 2011 and it was already known then that he was a "follower of radical Islam."

The FBI are claiming that what happened at the bombing is basically an intelligence failure.

Sounds to me like it's another failure of the government.

I'm not surprised it changed him. he no doubt saw the Russians doing their thing to his people, or heard of, or witnessed, the effects the Russians had on the Chechans. put bluntly, Russian policy has been linked with a rise of Islamism in Chechnya. If this story is somewhat familiar, don't be surprised.

and while we're on that topic: I'll bet you a lot of these GITMO victims will likely be enemies of the US after this--if they're even to survive. That has already happened too. So yeah, if anyone tells you the US' policy in the near and middle east isn't creating terrorists, well...they're wrong. to say the least.

if they were monitoring him, then they are hopelessly incompetent.

and about Saudi Arabia: actually to you guys who joked about it, they pretty much have run out of serious crimes to prosecute--judging from the crime rates at least. So like any government organization, it must self perpetuate, by coming up with new "reasons" to be--no matter how dumb. of course, the kind of dumb will be different (and worse), because this is Saudi Arabia, where since 1744 the royal family has had a contract with the clerical family (no, not making this up) to impose their religious and political values on the population. So you have the political and religious BS all rolled into one. doesn't help that the king's ancestor chose a clearly deranged member of banu tamim to have this contract with...

I suggest reading Nestor Sander's "Ibn Saud: King by conquest", for the details.

either way, this is why you keep church and state separate (OK, Al ash-sheikh and state)
Meh

I'm surprised they were Chechen. I would expect them to attack Moscow not Boston.

The bit Hawkeye and FSA spoke of about police acting like tyrants vs getting people to cooperate really hit the nail on the head; a slam dunk IMHO.

I'm not: America in a way is just another Russia to him and those of his mindset. Like Russia, America goes killing Muslims (and is accordingly seen as an enemy of Islam and Muslims), it's just as Godless by his standards, and of course, there's the fact that America's govco, in it's infinite hypocrisy (being supposedly pro "democracy"), doesn't give a fuck about the Chechans.

so while he no doubt acquired his Islamism in native Chechnya, from hearing/reading what was told to him by the locals, what he saw, or both, his anger is no longer merely focused on Russia.
Meh

Good point, Ibrahim. Remember that these guys have been living in America for something like a decade.

I guess. I also hear the Russian Military are far more brutal than US tho. Do you think the next bomber or attacker would be an Uighur?

probably not.

As to the Russians: anyone who's seen what they did in Eastern Europe should have realized this. yet, no one calls out the Russian Government over this. no moral courage to stand up, and say: "you guys have no right to commit these atrocities". too afraid of Russia's power--and it is a powerful country, even with all the crap it has going on.

I think the US could if they wanted to but yeah let's face it they won't. The US has one of the biggest and mightiest military on the planet and we did drop two nukes on two Japanese cities during ww2 to try and scare the soviets after all.  Another group would be the Chinese (PRC not ROC (Taiwan)).
