I was watching a vid when this term came up and it just suddenly clicked.  Couldn't this be used to describe a certain class of people that we frequently have grievances with?
Create bad guys to wage wars against?  Check
Undermine the work of the poor so they can step in and "save" them?  Check
Break the economy so they can "fix" it?  Check
Narcisistic tendencies?  Double check!

I'm not a psychiatrist but think I'm onto something here?
I recently heard that the word heretic is derived from the greek work heriticos which means "able to choose"
The more you know...

that would assume they want to do it so people think they're heroes for its sake. alternately, they may well just see this as the best way to make money and gain power. possibly they don't realize (or do not want to realize) that they're even causing the trouble in the first place?

either way, they're usually scumbags.
