QuoteThe Occupy Wall Street movement shut down one large port Monday on the West Coast and disrupted operations at another as hundreds of protesters are threatening to shutter many others up and down the sea board throughout the day.

In a coordinated effort called "Shut Down Wall Street on the Waterfront," the Occupy demonstrators in a host of cities, including Portland, San Diego, Los Angeles, Oakland, Tacoma and Seattle, are marching on the ports and attempting to shut down the docks in a show of opposition to corporate profits.

Hundreds of Occupy Portland protesters blocked entrances to Terminals 5 and 6 at the Port of Portland, stopping the flow of trucks and others from entering the docks, the Portland Tribune reports.

"By shutting down work at the ports this one more day that Goldman Sachs and Wall Street firms are unable to create profit," said Occupy Portland spokeswoman Kari Koch, according to the Tribune. Two men were reportedly arrested in Portland in connection to this protest.

In California, protesters stopped a group of big-rigs from entering the Port of Oakland, and forced some truck drivers and longshoremen to turn back and go home, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. There were also reports of blocked access to a pier at Port of Long Beach and the arrest of at least one protester.

Last month, Occupy Oakland saw one of the biggest clashes with the police since the movement was born in New York City earlier this year, when thousands of demonstrators shut down the Port of Oakland for hours. A violent confrontation between police and protesters led to dozens of arrests.

The Wall Street on the Waterfront movement is in particular targeting the Export Grain Terminal and Goldman Sachs, and protesters claim they are blockading the docks "in solidarity with longshoremen and port truckers struggles."

"U.S. ports have ... become economic engines for the elite; the 1 percent these trade hubs serve are free to rip the shirts off the backs of the 99 percent who turn their profits," the protesters note on the movement's website.

Occupy groups based in non-west coast cities are also participating in rallies across the county in solidarity with the west coast protests, including in Denver, Honolulu, Salt Lake City and New York City.

Absolutely disgusting. It's one thing to protest corporations being created and maintained by government. It is another thing to go out of your way to prevent people from working and trying to make money themselves.

well... (I've boldened the relevant part):

Quote from:  me, back in OctoberIt wasn't really hard to figure out what to say in the 60's: the problems were staring them in the face really. little wonder that they at least had an inkling as to what to say.

of course the modern protesters I feel are much more like chattel (yes, I said it). they feel something is wrong-much as a cow would-but not necessarily know why or how to necessarily get out of this mess-just to huddle together and run in one headless direction or other. and evidently, they lack any real coherent thinking as a group to actually come up with an effective solution (or the beginnings of it)-just like cattle.

this makes them actually a pretty dangerous group: if they are headless, and lack coherency, then they are easily swayed by any idiot or jagoff with a more immoral purpose
. of course, it also means that they can easily be led to the right answer, though whether they could be prevailed upon to think independently and in a truly critical manner I seriously doubt.

in short: it is disgusting-extremely so-but it is not surprising.
Meh

I've seen several other OWS groups come out and call them on this stupidity. It will be interesting to see the shape "Occupy" finds itself in coming out of winter. I fear only the radical hardcore leftists are going to be left and it will really be just about socialism.
