A citizen's group is calling for a convention to modify the Constitution, and they've set up an Informer.com project to get suggestions for amendments:

There are a few good suggestions, but a lot of them are Epic Fail. Anyway, I thought I might add a couple I've had in mind and see if they get any traction. You can sign up for free and vote on them if you like, and comment on these and others:

http://convention.idea.informer.com/proj/?ia=35320 (Yes, I based this on DownsizeDC.org;s act)

QuoteOne Subject at a Time

All Acts, Bills, and Joint Resolutions passed by Congress, and all Orders and Regulations issued by the Executive Office (hereinafter, the Act), shall comprise of one and only one Subject, specified in the Title.

Only the Provisions of the Act that are germane to the Subject are valid; any other Provisions are unconstitutional and void.

If the Title addresses two or more Subjects, or fails to specify a Subject, then the entirety of the Act is unconstitutional and void.

Any person aggrieved by the enforcement of an Act or Provision of an Act so voided by this article shall have a Cause of Action against the United States of America to seek appropriate relief, including injunction against the enforcement of said Act or Provision, and the standard of review shall be de novo.

QuoteActs to be Plainly Worded

All Acts, Bills, and Joint Resolutions passed by Congress, and all Orders and Regulations issued by the Executive Office (hereinafter, the Act), shall be written so as to be understandable by any person who shall be compelled to comply with the Act.

Any Act written so as to not be reasonably understood by such a person shall be unconstitutional and void.

If a Provision of an Act is written so as to not be reasonably understood by any such person, the Provision is unconstitutional and void; if any other part of the Act is dependent on this Provision, then the entirety of the Act is unconstitutional and void.

Any person aggrieved by the enforcement of an Act or Provision of an Act so voided by this article shall have a Cause of Action against the United States of America to seek appropriate relief, including injunction against the enforcement of said Act or Provision, and the standard of review shall be de novo.

yeah, but at this rate the top five proposals here (all of which are to one level or another, stupid) will be the ones that might be in.

seriously, people are stupid.

there are two repetitions of the 1 subject at a time: I voted for both. also voted for the plainly worded amendment proposal.
Meh

Yeah, somehow it got posted twice. I think it happened because I signed up at the same time I posted it. It got in twice, and my changes weren't reflected back in the first one.

To me, though, those are the kinds of things you should be doing in a Constitutional amendment: they're not partisan in any way, people all over the political landscape can get behind them, but our elected officials won't do anything about it.

yeah. that's the whole idea. though I'm somewhat skeptical of it. reading some of the comments (especially in the popular vote section), I get the feeling that it may not be such a good idea to let "the people" determine what amendments get looked at-doesn't help that the retarded ideas seem to be in the top five.

I already posted in the popular vote proposal mentioned article with my opinion: I would have written more, but it was already getting long. the gist of it is that while the current system is not ideal, it's not as if the popular vote would work.

and nice rebuttal to that idiot.
Meh

Those top-vote-getters have been up there several months.
